BABA Home Page
The Bay Area Bluegrass Association known as BABA, was organized in early 1986 and incorporated in 1987 under the Texas Non-Profit Corporation Act. The primary purpose of BABA is to preserve, encourage, and promote Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel music as an American art form. BABA promotes Bluegrass through being active in community events, fund raisers, festivals, and monthly shows.
We are proud to have supported our community in a variety of functions, fund raisers, festivals and shows. A few of these events have included: support to KPFT (listener-sponsored radio); The Seabrook Rotary; Crime Stoppers fund raiser; Armand Bayou Nature Center's Fall Festival; the Annual Fire On The Strings Bluegrass Festival; Bluegrass In The Park at League Park; Dickinson Parks Dept. concert series; and providing entertainment for area nursing homes, churches, and service organizations.

BABA Receives Recognition From League City
League City Mayor Jerry Shult's proclaimed October 10, 2006 to be Bay Area Bluegrass Association Day at the city council meeting this week. The award is in recognition of their excellence, dedication and hard work to promote not only Bluegrass music and musicians in League City, but also in the surrounding communities as well. They have been an active contributor for the past ten years, participating in events that include Clear Lakes Epicurean Evening, the fundraising fireworks on July 4th, and the Ballunar Festival. They have supported Clear Lake Crime Stoppers, Armand Bayou Nature Center Fall Festival, as well as area nursing homes and churches.
Topping off this year, BABA was selected to host the Texas State Mandolin Championship in August at the Johnny Arolfo Civic Center in League City. Their free Bluegrass music jam and stage show on the third Saturday of the month includes a special, innovative prize raffle. The drawing is made from receipts from purchases made at League City businesses the day of the show.

Monthly Show
The monthly show is held on the third Saturday of each month at the Johnny Arolfo Civic Center (except December) at 300 W. Walker, League City, Texas and the FIRE ON THE STRINGS FESTIVAL at Haven's Landing Resort the third weekend of May. The monthly show is free and features Bluegrass from the local and national scene. The stage show begins at 6:30 PM, but pickers are welcome to bring their instruments and come earlier. The BABA kitchen provides tasty, inexpensive food and beverages (NO ALCOHOL). Door prizes are offered at every show.

The webpage is changing!
There is now a "Members Directory" section where members can enter information they would like to share with other members or the general public. You must register and a password will be sent to the email address you provide. In order to register, you will need a user ID and password.
The user ID cannot contain spaces or other non-alphanumeric characters. If you would like to use more than one word, perhaps your first and last name, you must separate the names with an underscore, space, or some other character. Capitalizing each name without a space works well too. You can change the generated password to one you will remember immediately.
All visitors (registered or not) can view the entries in the "Public" category. Only members can view entries in the "Protected" category. You can enter your information immediately into the database and have access to it, as long as you assign yourself (user name) as the owner.
Once registered, an administrator will review new users and place members into the members group. You will then be able to see other members shared information.
There is a field at the bottom that allows you to set the level of access you want others to have. "Public" means the information is available to anyone, registered or not. "Protected" allows those assigned to the "Members" group to see your information. "Private" means only the administrator and the owner (you) can see the data.
Select "Members" from the category selection and your user name as the owner.
Near the bottom of the configuration form, there is a field for "Instruments Played" and one for comments. If you include the term "Jam" in the comments field and enter one or more instruments, the "Site Search" will help other members find you for jam sessions. If you include your zip code or city, these can also be used in the search field to help others find you for jamming.
If you have something you want to announce for the benefit of other members, submit it by clicking on the "Submit News" on the menu bar. All announcements must be approved by an administrator before they are available on the web page. You can read others announcements on the top of the page or open the "Announcements" button.
This web page also has "Recipe" and "FAQ" modules built in. If you would like to see these features added, please add a "Comment" requesting them or use the "Contact BABA" form (on the menu) to let the Board of Directors know.

Just curious as to why there are no current pictures in the photo album. I saw the photographer taking pictures the last few monthly shows but they have not been put on the web-site
