April Feature Band - The Fire Ants String Band
Numerous and belligerent, The Fire Ants bring an old-time mountain sound to the Texas Gulf Coast anthills. They got the kind of music that makes you want to plant something in a field, eat something fried with gravy, and sit out on the porch with something bootleg. Songs about trains, thieves, murders, and roadkill — a little somethin’ for everyone! Holler at ’em if and when you need some pickin’ and some grinnin’.
Tracy Jo Barnwell is a songwriter, mandolin-player, and mountain-style vocalist inspired by Hazel and Alice, John Prine, and Gillian Welch. Brought up in Georgia in a bluegrass-playing family, she formed the Dead Girl Songs duo and has played in barns, festivals, and venues along the east coast and in the Houston area.
Johnny Thunder comes from all the best towns in Texas. He learned to work the bass from his mother in law a while back, for something to do while Tracy Jo and her family played music day and night. His sorts of talent best remain hidden, but he’s been seen holding down the one and three in barns and fields from Texas to Nova Scotia. He’s played with Dead Girl Songs, the Jordan Falls Summer Band, and the occasional bluegrass/country superstar. He likes black coffee, black shirts, and green salsa.
Hailing from the Highlands of Scotland, Tristan Young has played music all his life. Inspired by Tony Rice and Django Reinhardt, Tristan loves to deliver flashy and bluesy solos to keep things interesting.
